Artist's Statement

As a self-taught potter and creator of unique wall hanging sculpture, Alissa Whalen explores the diverse world of clay at her home studio, just north of Bobcaygeon and Fenelon Falls.

Working with red stoneware and a variety of glaze techniques, she develops ideas with natural patterns found in her flower and vegetable gardens, in the wooded landscape, and rolling fields of the surrounding area. The clay work is predominantly one-of-a-kind, lending to a very special appreciation for each piece. Alissa’s tableware is fully functional and food safe. In the past Alissa has taught pottery classes to all age groups and has displayed her work at numerous art shows across Southern Ontario. She is a member of both the Durham and Kawartha Potters Guilds.
